It was a decade of glitz, glamour, outsized actors and actresses, and of course, the Great Depression. This month-long observance grew out of Women's History Week, initiated in 1978 by the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women and enacted in 1981 by a Joint Congressional Resolution. "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country. Inspiring, uplifting, and most of all motivating, the film is a compelling testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.

Warmouth is a conceptual humorist/artist who creates interactive video installations and other artworks that use satirical humor to investigate the viewer's relationship to language, advertising, food, and culture. One of the installations included in "Food Court," "Jeff burger," combines a video projection with an interactive touch-screen podium, along with a set designed to resemble a fast-food counter. The artist stands behind the counter awaiting the viewers' 'selection' from the menu. The menu includes unique specialties like "Fibonacci Salad," "White Cube," and "Invert Burger."

| | | Ginger Levant: Landscapes and Still Lifes | | From the artist, Ginger Levant: "Landscape is central to my work. The paintings juxtapose human history as seen in local architecture with the wildness of the natural elements. I am inspired by these aspects of my surroundings and react to them visually by finding an underlying pictorial structure through rhythm, movement and infinite variations of patterns of light. This technique, revived by Jasper Johns, Diego Rivera, and many others, offers both vigorous spontaneity while also giving the artist full control over the medium. Encaustic is ideal for someone interested not only in painting, but for exploring all that can be accomplished with achieving textural and translucent, layering effects. Combined with collage and other methods, encaustic will help to precisely execute your artistic ideas and promote full self-expression. These are one-on-one or one-on-two workshops.
