The Women's Week celebration takes place during March, proclaimed by a joint resolution of Congress in 1987 as Women's History Month. This month-long observance grew out of Women's History Week, initiated in 1978 by the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women and enacted in 1981 by a Joint Congressional Resolution. At the center of the celebration is International Women's Day, celebrated worldwide on March 8. All Lowell Women's Week events are free, unless otherwise noted. Events are open to everyone! "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country. Thousands of women armed only with white t-shirts and the courage of their convictions took on the warlords and nonviolently forced a resolution during the stalled peace talks. Inspiring, uplifting, and most of all motivating, the film is a compelling testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
