VISUAL VOICES IV: Artwork by Lowell School Students
February 28 to March 27, 2010LOWELL, MA (February 3, 2010). A multi-gallery exhibition of the finest artwork produced by 250 students from the public, private and charter schools of Lowell. VISUAL VOICES IV and its related events is a collaboration of Lowell's galleries, schools and teachers. This biennial event was conceived eight years ago by Lowell art teacher and Brush Gallery artist Lolita Demers. This year, Demers is joined by Lowell art teachers Marta Magnus, Stephanie Deshenes, Erin Noonan-Descoteaux and Erica Van Fleet to produce this wonderful, city-wide exhibition of artwork by elementary, middle and high school students.
Paintings, sculpture, pottery, mixed media, photography, computer graphics and drawings will be on display. Professionally presented, the works offer an overview of the excellent visual artwork being made in Lowell's schools and provide an opportunity to recognize the city's teachers and students. Students, artists, teachers, school faculty, parents and the general public are encouraged to attend the receptions and to view the exhibitions of these talented, young, emerging artists.

More about VISUAL VOICES IV:
The purpose of VISUAL VOICES IV is twofold: to provide students with real-life experience in planning, producing and exhibiting their artwork in professional galleries, and to foster collaboration among students, parents, teachers, galleries, local artists and the community.Over the years these exhibitions have motivated many students to do their best work. Students appreciate the importance and beauty of their artwork by seeing it matted, framed and exhibited in a gallery in their community. Exhibitions like VISUAL VOICES IV exemplify the importance of art in our schools and our community. They provide students with the opportunity to excel and to be recognized in the arts, which is particularly important for children who may not be as gifted in other subjects. Exhibitions also bring to light the dedication of our art teachers -- the effort they put into everyday teaching and the time they spend helping their students prepare and showcase artwork.
