Activities include: * The ever popular National Human Dog Sled Competition * "Mittens and Museum Madness" activities for kids * The Glacier Gallery Artisans Market * The North Bowl Soup Competition * The annual snowman competition * Outdoor ice skating Winterfest opens on Friday, February 5 at 6:45pm with the kick-off of the National Human Dog Sled Competition. Festivities are capped off on Saturday night with a 5:30pm fireworks display over Tsongas Arena. It was an era of big budget musicals, outsize actors and actresses, crime and gangsters, and many films considered today's movie classics. An art exhibit of unusual application and endeavor,Uncommon Application features artists Jeanne Williamson and Brian Hart and their works that celebrate and explore a modern sensibility. There will be a reception featuring an artists' talk by Jeanne Williamson and Brian Hart on Sun., Jan. 10 from 1-2:30 pm in the gallery. This event is free and open to the public. Children are welcome and light refreshments will be provided. About the Artists Jeanne Williamson is a mixed media artist who works with fabric and paint and thread. Brian Hart is the son of artist and teacher Mary Hart. His work has its roots in history painting, a modern day Poussin with references to both classical art and popular culture, such as video games and comics. The exhibit was made possible by the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust. The artists' talk is funded by the Groton Trust Funds Lecture Fund. An opening reception on March 6 at 1pm will feature a lecture on the Amish lifestyle and its intimate connection to quilting by guest curator Bettina Havig, an internationally-renowned quilt expert and author. In addition, historical quilting expert Gerald Roy will give a talk on the Amish use of color in conjunction with the exhibition on April 17 at 1pm. During the exhibit, the museum will also feature, in its permanent collection rooms, the work of Dorothy Bosselman. The late artist set out to recreate 60 historical Amish quilts, most dating from the early 20th century, in miniature.
