Legendary Coconut Grove Fire Discussed at Pollard Library
The Coconut Grove Fire, November 28, 1942, which killed nearly 500 people, led to major changes in fire and safety codes and manslaughter law as well as innovations in burn treatments and post-traumatic shock therapy. Join Stephanie Schorow as she discusses the impact of this fire and the 1872 Great Fire of Boston and their lingering mysteries. This event is presented by Moses Greeley Parker Lecture Series.

ALL Member Margot Stage Exhibits Her Fiber Work
View fiber artist Margot Stage's new work in downtown Lowell. "The Acre Across the Ages" depicts the cultural history of one of Lowell's most interesting neighborhoods. This three-fold screen will be displayed at the Pollard Library November 13-30 and at the Enterprise Bank at 222 Merrimack Street from November 30-December 18.

Fiber Art Demonstration and Workshop by Robin Martel
Mixed media collage fiber artist, Robin Martell, will demonstrate how to use textile fibers such as angelina, tyvek, silk, ribbons, wool, bamboo, fabric, etc. to design handmade paper. The artist will demonstrate how to integrate "found" objects such as beads, buttons, postage stamps, vintage pins and glitter to add texture, sparkle and dimension to a collage project using handmade and commercial paper.Each participant will work on his/her own project by integrating textile fibers into the design of handmade paper using angelina as the foundation fiber. Participants may bring bring ribbons, buttons or fabric to use in their project but it is not required. Robin Martell's work has sold in museums, art galleries, art auction shows, and in private collections. The artist has a mixed media collage art card line, Innisfree Cards.
