The Lowell Film Collaborative and the Arts League of Lowell, in partnership with Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, present the second film in their "Film and the Arts" series:
MAYA LIN A Strong Clear Vision
Tuesday, November 9 | 6:30 p.m. The Art Gallery at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union One Tremont Place, Lowell
Free admission and complimentary refreshments. Seating is limited.
This film is being screened in commemoration of Veterans' Day. We respectfully extend an special invitation to all our local veterans -- we hope you will join us. Director Freida Lee Mock's Academy Award-winning documentary film relives the public controversial origins of the renowned Vietnam Veterans Memorial and showcases the first decade of work of its young creator, 21-year-old Yale architecture student Maya Lin. Beating out some of the most prestigious architecture firms from around the world, Lin's proposal was selected from over 1,000 different designs, a giant victory for such a young and unknown artist. Today, Lin is a celebrated and successful architect, activist, and environmentalist, and is still creating inspirational places of reverence, utility, and retrospection.
Though a prestigious and beloved U.S. monument, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and its simplistic design still elicits conflicting emotion from service men and women as well as civilians. Do our memorials and monuments truly represent the most fitting tribute to our heroes and other beloved icons? This film holds particular relevance in light of the current controversy around Ground Zero and plans for our 9/11 memorial.
OUR VENUE The Art Gallery at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union features a state-of-the-art digital projection and sound system which will enhance your enjoyment of our presentation. A variety of artist works are showcased in the gallery on a rotating basis in collaboration with the Arts League of Lowell.

"Architecture is like a mythical fantastic. It has to be experienced. It can't be described. We can draw it up and we can make models of it, but it can only be experienced as a complete whole." - Maya Lin
