National Small Business Week events in Lowell, May 24
Come join the City of Lowell as we celebrate National Small Business Week by recognizing and showing appreciation to the hardworking small business owners of our community, while also having the opportunity to attend educational workshops that will be helpful in successfully operating a small business. Events include panel discussions and guest speakers.

"Strange Snow" at the Old Court, May 21 & 22

Image Theater's production features the acting talents of Sharon Mason, Bob Stachel, and John Carozza. It is directed by Jerry Bisantz, with the assistance of Ann Garvin. Lighting and sound design by Alex Savitzky."Strange Snow" became the major motion picture "Jack Knife," starring: Robert DeNiro, Ed Harris and Kathy Baker.

Celebrate 50 years of the ATHM, May 23

American Textile History Museum's 50th Anniversary Celebration. The American Textile History Museum has come a long way in their first 50 years. Free admission on May 23 Includes admission to all three exhibitions: Textile Revolution: An Exploration through Space and Time; More Than a Number; and Inspired Design: Lasell College at ATHM.

"Enlighten Up!" screens at Life Alive Cafe, May 24

Follow Nick Rosen and filmmaker Kate Churchill on a global (and humorous) journey and real-life search for enlightenment through yoga. Join them as they reveal the good, bad, and often confusing side of yoga. Following the film, a short guided yoga/meditation experience suitable for everyone will be lead by Jon Brandi of BromYoga.

Civil War film series comes to the Pollard

All films in this special series are shown in conjunction with Pollard Memorial Library's display of Forever Free, a traveling exhibition that reexamines President Lincoln's efforts toward the abolition of slavery during the Civil War.

David Phaneuf at Ayer Lofts Gallery, through May 30

David Phaneuf: Solo Show -- Pen and Ink Drawings. If you've ever walked around Lowell in the afternoons or early evenings, you may have seen artist David Phaneuf with his sketchbook capturing the city's scenery. The Revolving Museum presents "Painting Our Community," May 27

The Revolving Museum's Youth Artists present "Painting Our Community," a series of murals illustrating Lowell's immigrant history. Come meet the artists, enjoy live music by The Celtic Angkor, spoken word performance by Free Verse, and delicious food by UTEC Fresh Roots. Event is free and open to the public!

"Earthly Connections III," through June 13

Earthly Connections III celebrates the Haniwa form of ancient Japan by incorporating contemporary interpretations of functional and nonfunctional sculptural stoneware. Artists: Sharon Levy, Gwen Stith, Judy Nevius, Jennifer Woods, Eva Glazebrook, Tim Scott. Guest painters: Kellie Weeks, Gillian Frazier, and Gregory Wright. Exhibit runs through June 13. Artists reception: Sunday, June 6, 3 - 5PM.

Lowell Jazz Day Camp & related events at The Space

Registration is open for the Lowell Jazz Day Camp two-week program, July 12 - 23, at The Space, directed by local jazz artist Stanley Swann. Other exciting Jazz Day Camp events include a Guitar Clinic with British guitarist Jeff Purchon and a Drum Clinic with Berklee faculty member, Sergio Bellotti. The Lowell Jazz Day Camp and its related events are open to the public.

Lowell native Gail Gray releases new novel

All Things That Matter Press, Maine announces the release of "Shaman Circus," a magical realism/dark fantasy novel by Gail Gray. Gray is an author and artist who lived in Hampton, NH and Greenville, SC while writing and editing Shaman Circus. Gray, formerly of Lowell, is the owner of Shadow Archer Press which publishes edgy chapbooks and Fissure magazine.

Calls to Artists

Art in Whistler Park, Thursday, June 3 & Thursday, June 17, 5-8PM. Artist members of the Lowell Art Association, Inc./WhistlerHouse Museum of Art are welcome to bring art to sell. No registration fee. Membership must be current to participate. New members are welcome to purchase memberships and participate. Art can be displayed using their own tables and easels and art can be hung on the fences. In the event of rain, tables will be supplied in the Parker Gallery. Members are welcome to use their own easels as well. This event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served in the Parker Gallery. Please email jdyment@whistlerhouse.org for a registration form.

Registration is open for Lowell Open Studios. Now through June 1, save $10 on your registration fee and pay just $40. On June 2 the fee increases to $50.
