Lowell This Weekend: Festivals and Grand Openings!

Saturday June 20, 2009
African Festival
"The African Cultural Association was borne out of the annual African Festival that has been held in Lowell since 2000. The first was held at the J.F. Kennedy Civic Center in downtown Lowell. It was a great success and received favorable reviews from both the Lowell Sun and the Boston Globe. It has continued as an annual event featuring performing arts, as well as traditional and modern African arts and crafts." Free and open to the public. 11am-7pm, Sampas Pavillion, Pawtucket Blvd, Lowell, MA.

Sunday June 21, 2009
American Textile History Museum Grand Reopening
"Join us on Sunday, May 17, for free admission to the new and exciting American Textile History Museum, reopening to the public after more than a year of reinvention. In the interactive Textile Revolution: An Exploration through Space and Time, you can spin, weave, recycle, and design your way through textile history. Mingle with our faux sheep, simulate parachuting from a real single-engine plane, throw the shuttle on an authentic hand loom, and design your own clothing line on a computer. See how textiles are changing your world, from protective clothing for firefighters and soldiers to revolutionary “shark skin” suits for our gold-medal Olympic swimmers. And so much more. You’ll never look at the fascinating world of textiles the same way again."

Monday June 22, 2009
Franco American Film Festival
As part of a week long Franco-American celebration of the city's French heritage, the Quebecois Film Fest is sponsored by the ACA Section Domremy, and will be held at Lydon Library at U.Mass Lowell, North Campus, 84 University Ave. Lowell, MA. 1-7pm Admission is free and the public is invited.

As always, check out the calendar on the blog for more events and happenings!
