"Other Side"

As part of Boston CyberArts Festival, "Other Side" will unveil on Tues., Apr. 26, 6-9:00pm, at Revolving Museum's new location on 290 Jackson Street, Lowell, MA. The college Artbotics class will also be exhibiting their work, “Play” at 119 Gallery, on 119 Chelmsford Street, Lowell, MA on the same date and time. There will be a live video connection between the two exhibits, and visitors are encouraged to visit both galleries (they're within walking distance). Both exhibits are FREE!

This semester’s Lowell High School Artbotics class is presenting their exhibition “Other Side”, a series of kinetic sculptures revolving around the idea of other side – a seedy, underworld marketplace filled with creatures and other forms of life that are out of this world.

The UML Artbotics course has created a wide variety of different robotic sculptures. All pieces have an interactive element that will encourage the audience to "Play" with them.

Both exhibitions will be part of the biennial Boston CyberArts Festival,
which marks the festival’s debut in Lowell.

The Lowell Film Collaborative is proud to announce the 4th Annual Lowell Film Festival, coming to downtown Lowell Thursday, April 28 - Saturday, April 30! This is our second year partnering with COOL and UMass Lowell on this event -- we hope you'll come join us and give some support to more great cinema in the Mill City!

As in years past, the Lowell Film Festival has adopted a timely theme - this year, the Fest focuses on the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War by presenting feature films and documentaries that explore the War and a variety of related societal themes. We think you'll enjoy the lineup which includes Traces of the Trade, Buster Keaton's The General, Moving Midway, Chicago 10, PLUS Academy Award winners and popular favorites, Glory and Gone With the Wind! The event will also showcase Lowell's OWN Civil War history through Civil War Tours and local exhibits at Lowell Gallery, the New England Quilt Museum, and the Mogan Cultural Center.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Charles Towers announced today the productions that will make up the company's 33^rd Season of producing professional theatre for audiences in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire. Merrimack Rep's 2011-2012 Season will feature seven productions of contemporary works by American authors running from September through May. Subscriptions for the 2011-2012 Season are on sale now through the box office at 978.654.4MRT.

Opening the 2011-2012 Season is The Persian Quarter by Kathleen Cahill, an invigorating drama about the power words have to overcome cultural differences. Next up is the touching portrayal of the great American poet Robert Frost, This Verse Business by A.M. Dolan. For the holiday season, the Reduced Shakespeare Company® returns with their newest creation, a yet to be titled Christmas show. 2012 opens with the moving 1943 romantic comedy, The Voice of the Turtle by John Van Druten. In February, MRT mounts its first musical in four seasons with Daddy Long Legs, book by Tony Award winner John Caird, music and lyrics by Paul Gordon, based on the novel by Jean Webster. Following Daddy Long Legs will be the witty and insightful comedy Mrs. Whitney by John Kolvenbach, about a 60-year old woman with a unique sense of romance. Concluding the season will be Ghost-Writer by Michael Hollinger.

Artistic Director Charles Towers, now entering his 11th season at Merrimack Rep, stated, "There can be no doubt that our country is living through turbulent times, both at home and abroad. Perhaps it has always been thus. But I felt very strongly this year that now was the time to hear a variety of American voices along the American journey. There is no political position here. But we have been a nation of thinkers and dreamers; a nation of writers willing to explore our unique character, in all of its manifestations. These plays inspire hope, even as they remind us of our shared past. This season is like every other at MRT: unique unto itself, and as universal as the human heart; another contribution to an ongoing journey of understanding ourselves and others."
